Swim lessons
Hi everyone.
I know that most of you are interested in this website for your own athletic needs but I thought maybe someone could relate to my new mom experiences. My daughter, Skye, just turned one on April 21st. She is super adventurous and very independent. She is a really good and happy baby....not just from me but from other mom's as well. I am lucky. Anyway, I wanted her to take swim lessons...of course. And even though I have swum all my life, I had no clue about teaching a baby. I had so many questions...when should I start? Should I put her in a class? Will she get cold? When can I put her under?
Babies are supposed to feel "natural" in the water, right?! Well, I didn't feel natural with her in the water at first but it has been such a fun process.
We started taking swim lessons at my local gym about 2 months ago. She had been in the water several times before and I had taken her under the water at 3 months but being in a class makes such a difference. I think it might be her age also...she is sponge for information. She is close to blowing bubbles, she knows how to turn around and get herself into the pool backwards. She knows how to get her feet under her when she stumbles. She knows that when I count 1-2-3 that we are going under the water. Now....she doesn't like all of these things but she LOVES the pool. I think it is so very important to start young when getting kids pool safe. It takes some committment....getting to the pool a few times a week to work on these things...like Shallow vs. Deep end.
Wait to jump in until mom says 1-2-3. but when they finally get it....oh that is awesome.
I want her to have fun in the pool this summer and many summers to come. I think putting her in swim lessons was the best thing. thanks for listening.
