Get outside and get in the water
This is my favorite time of the year. The weather is consistently nice and warm. School is almost out and there is nothing better than coolin off and getting a tan at the same time. Seriously, we loved the fact that we were getting tan while working out. Why do you think we asked them to create a training bikini??? One that actually stays on when you do a flip turn.
There are a couple of very important things to remember when the weather gets hot.
#1 Always have a water bottle at the end of your lane. My coach, Richard Quick, wouldn't let us practice unless we had a water bottle. Many people don't realize that swimmers actually sweat during practice just like during any other strenuous workout. Imagine if it was 90 degrees out and you were going for a 2 hour run....how thirsty would you be??? It would be stupid not to have water on hand during that run, HUH?! Well, the same holds true for swimming. So, not only do you need to have the water bottle, you need to remember to drink the water.
#2 Always wear sunblock. I didn't do this very often growing up, but if I do now!! It is important do wear it even if it is a cloudy day or early in the morning. If you can see your shadow, you need sunblock.
Remember, summertime is all about being outside and enjoying the water. There are plenty of fun races and activities that you can get involved with....so do it!!! Go for it!! and Have Fun!!!
