Phoenix Rock N Roll

Anybody planning on the Rock N Roll Marathon January 18th??? I need some motivation!! My training for running has been pretty unconventional for a marathon, but I feel I'm in pretty decent shape. But I NEED to run more for sure!!! I have been running anywhere from 10-40 miles a week consistantly with some long rides here and there. This Saturday, I want to get out and ride during the tour some, but mainly want to run the Sabino Canyon/Bear Canyon loop. It is a great approximately, 18 mile trail run from the parking lot in Sabino Canyon. I can be flexible with time but will probably go out in the afternoon around 2pm. If interested post here and I will see you there.

PETITION TO GET THE PAH RAH TRAIL AS AN OFFICIAL TRAIL

This is a posting that all are invited to join in on. The Pah Rah Mountain range is a group of mountains located opposite the Sierra Nevada Mountain range in Reno, NV. The Pah Rah's are East (actually located in Sparks, NV) and what make the Reno, NV area a Great Basin (City that is surrounded by Mountains).
A group of hard working individuals have been developing an amazing network of trails in this mountain range over the last couple years. There is greater than 10 miles, and growing, of some awesome single track as well as some massive climbs that take you to some incredible views of Reno, NV, the Sierra NV Mountain Range and East Sparks, NV.

Week of 11/17/08 Training plans

Posting this on Sunday, not many showed up to Mountain bike today (11/16/08). A.G. had a great time today, weather was epic and your Dad is a machine - he is definately someone for us to aspire to as we get older.
Pah Rah's were fun today and there were a lot of people on the trail. Hopefully the police will do something about the people shooting guns near the trails.
Skill are definately getting better on that technical ride and I have to say that we motored up the 900ft climb to the chicken. Best day yet for me. Getting my climbing legs back, now I have to take off some extra pounds from all the ice cream and I should really start to fly up the mountains.

Winter time

So I have not blogged on this site in quite some time. My triathlon and bike racing have really fallen off late summer/early fall. I have had problems staying healthy and thus I had to cancel planned races for the end of my season.
I was planning on racing the Soma 1/2 ironman in Tempe, AZ towards the end of October but I have lost so much fitness from being sick that there is no way that I could even participate in a 1/2 ironman let alone race one.
Just last week (End of October/beginning November) was I finally able to get back outside on the bike and start to get my biking legs back. I have only been able to go outside once and run and it was a measley 3 mile trail run with my dog as a snail pace.

Obama and Triathlon

So you don't expect to see Obama and Triathlon in the same sentence. Nor do you expect to hear McCain for that matter. But I pose a question to anyone who will be open minded.

What if we do to triathlon what Obama wants to do to the economy?????

1. Race fees would be optional for the poor or maybe even the slower athletes. Afterall, the more wealthy and or faster athletes that work extra hard would pay higher fees and cover (let's be accurate!) 95+% of the race expences. Yeh.......that is fair.

California college triathlon

So I am new to California and will be going to school in S. Cal. I came from the Midwest and was a part of my college tri club (don't want to say who so that I don't make them mad - I still have friends there). I am new to triathlon but grew up swimming and 'am a low 6 min miler so felt as though I would do good by transistioning over to triathlon.
I have to say that what I have been observing in California is that the College athletes are way better than anywhere else. I have never been around so many fast athletes that are strong in all 3 areas. I hope that they will push me to become a faster triathlete and keep the flame alive for years to come.

Mountain biking in the Fall

Had the chance to go out with some buddies to the Lake Tahoe area last weekend. We went to the Nevada side of the lake and started our MTB trip near the Sand Harbor beach area. This was my first time biking on this trail and we were trying to get to the famous flume trail.
Where we started, there was no time for a warm up. We started with an immediate climb on tunnel creek road that probably took most of us close to an hour to get up. Not sure how long the climb was but being in the big mountains, I certainly felt the elevation on my legs and lungs. Plus there were a few sections of sand that really fried my legs and made me yell out bad words (I am sure the nearby hikers did not appreciate) as I was trying hard to get through it.

Soma Tri

Ok, so I came to AZ to race SOMA. It started out as a stressfull experience. I missed my swim start. When I realized that my swim wave was sent off and that I had the wrong colored cap, I jumped in and swam like mad!

Mt Whitney and cross training

As a triathlete, I think our sport is one of the best truly, cross-training sports, that you don't have to cross-train for!
