Will USAT understand that the sprint race at collegiate nationals is lame?

There are many schools who planned to send over 20 people to nationals this year before they knew about the 20 person cap, and as a result they are forced to make some tough decisions. One of the things that some schools are doing is entering their athletes into the "alternate races" that USAT is providing on the same weekend. The alternate races consist of one open sprint race that anyone off of the street can enter, regardless if they are in college or not, and the other is an ITU type sprint distance race.

I am wondering if the alternate races are filling up because people are satisfied with the idea of adding those races, or if they are just filling up because that is all that is being offered.

2008 USAT Collegiate Triathlon Nationals Full

So, collegiate nationals filled up super early this year leaving many clubs wondering what to do about all of their team members that wanted to go, but can't because of the new 20 people per team limit.

The University of Arizona TriCats spent the 2007 fall semester setting up club goals and expectations based on sending 50 people to nationals.  They did their homework, calling up USAT officials to confirm that this would be possible, and then proceeded to lead the club using the set goals as motivation.

November, USAT published new policies on their website limiting the number of entrants from each team allowed in the collegiate national race to 20 per school until February, and then teams could enter as many people as they wanted up to race capacity.

Thanksgiving, Never a disappointment.

Had a fun thanksgiving weekend,

Me and Moses Mpanga

Thursday, ran the Turkey trot, ate lunch, got stuffed, grazed all day, and went out to my friends house where we played Jenga drinking games until 11pm, then thankfully I had a designated driver, and got home safe where we proceeded to have a bonfire until around 1, I think.  The bonfire was warm and a great way to wind down.  Side note, don't pick flaming pieces of rubber out of a fire with your bare hands... That shit is sticky. OUCH.  I am wondering if these burns on my hands will get infected.  hope not.

Beat the Africans

Hey everyone, just wanted to tell everyone how I beat the Africans for the first mile by 3 seconds in the CATWalk last saturday, then I blew up and finished the 10k in over 40 minutes, which was still good enough for the top 10.

Best semester ever!

Ever since leaving high school and then dropping out of community college 7 years ago life has gotten better and better for me.

Halloween

Halloween was awesome, I went to 2 different parties, one on wednesday, and one on friday.  Friday's party was a little out of control, but the best party that I have been to all year.

Saturday was Arizona's Homecoming Game and some friends of mine and I went down to University Blvd. and watched and cheered.

I am starting to get worn out on the partying, and training through the partying, and working, and trying to keep up with my family.    There are so many good things going on for me right now that it is hard to choose where to divide my time and focus.  I am not one to multitask very efficiently, so a lot of things fall through the cracks when I try to divide my attention in multiple areas.

Weekend Warrior

Many people have asked me what's going on, where am I, what am I up to?

Well this last weekend was pretty busy, Friday night, one of my good friends, who happens to be the president of the Northern Arizona Triathlon Club came down to Tucson from Flagstaff to visit Friday through Saturday.  I felt like I should show her a good time.  So here it goes...

Friday night we went to a birthday party for the president of the UofA tri club's gf, and stayed out until about 2 in the AM.  I decided not to get overly drunk of the box wine and jello shots because we had a bike race to wake up early for Saturday.

Back from training camp.

This last weekend was awesome dude!  Left T-town about 5:30pm on friday with three friends, and as much camping/triathlon equipment we could cram into a '91 green Jeep Cherokee with no Air Conditioning.  We were headed for Lake Patagonia, for the first annual TriCats hell training camp.  I have been to TriCats training camps before, but this time was a little different.  Our party pulled into the campground at around 7:30 and to our amazement there were already about 30 TriCats sitting around a fire chatting it up.

Long Absense Cut Short

So I know that it has been a while since my last post, but I have been ridiculously busy with other things and didn't feel like spending 5 minutes to update everyone, sounds lazy right.  Anyway, there is no way that I can tell you everything that happened to me and around me in the last couple of weeks, but here is the short list.

Aerobic Craziness

Ok so I went on my assigned run yesterday in the hills near Starr Pass with the TriCats, 10 minute warmup, 21 minutes in Zone 2 (155-165) and 5 minutes of cool down.  I now kind of understand what people mean by it being hard to get your heart rate up.  I was running in hills for 10 minutes and could barely get my HR above 140 it felt great because I was flying, but not so great because it was like almost sprinting in a skree field with some of the sharpest football sized rocks you have ever seen.
