Weather changing
We are getting close to the middle of October and the weather in Reno has really changed. We have already had a couple days where Reno received a trace of snow. More bad weather is coming tonight and tomorrow. This makes it hard to get quality workouts outside. However, I already have over 130 miles on the bike for the month, nearly 20 miles running, and about 4 1/2 swimming. Month is getting pretty good.
Today, I went to the gym and did a light lifting workout and headed to a local high school track (Galena High School). I like their track as it is cushioned. I did 1/2 mile sprints that ranged from 3:03 to 3:08 in a lightly windy day for a total of 4 miles of track work.
I am really looking forward to the weekend as both Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be pleasant. My plans are to get some big miles on the bike and have a good "brick" workout (bike/run) on Sunday.
Temperatures are in the high 50's to low 60's and if the weather starts to cool off anymore this will make it hard to get the adequate preperation in for the Silverman 1/2 Ironman in November.

Silverman Triathlon Feedback
Hi Patrick123,
I've never participated in the Silverman Tri's but have had some feedback from friends and acquaintances that been. From my own experience, swimming at Boulder Beach was rocky (don't forget your slippers). But then, I have sensitive feet. The water that day was calm and not a wind in sight.
Feedback from sources report during the race last year it was very windy. Alot of swimmers had to be pulled out due to turbulance-induced motion sickness. What made matters worst was the gas fumes from several jet ski's that tried to help them. I don't know about you, but that odor would make me sick more so than the choppy water.
The bike course has 9700 feet of climbing, the run 2000 feet. Doesn't sound too bad? Sources say, it HURT! Another perspective? One of the competitors ran his marathon at 3:53 when in a standalone marathon he clocks 2:55. OUCH! But then, this was the full distance not half.
All report back it was a grueling race but wouldn't of had it any other way. Just to finish was such an accomplishment. So, when you cross that finish line know that you did something spectacular and didn't participate in any run-of-the-mill event.
Go get em' !
Cushioned tracks are the
Cushioned tracks are the best! The spongy/grippy feel just makes you feel faster.
Do you know much about the Silverman 1/2 course? It appears to be very hilly on both the bike and run. It looks as though it will not be a fast day.
Silverman Triathlon
Don't you just love those cushioned tracks. I did a swim at Boulder Beach last year and I recall that it was very rocky. My feet were pierced by sharp rocks. It may be in your best interest to bring disposable flip-flops. One of the guys I train with did the Silverman Full distance last year who happened to place first had the same experience. The best to you! You'll definitely get some good weather in Henderson.
