Aerobic Craziness

Ok so I went on my assigned run yesterday in the hills near Starr Pass with the TriCats, 10 minute warmup, 21 minutes in Zone 2 (155-165) and 5 minutes of cool down.  I now kind of understand what people mean by it being hard to get your heart rate up.  I was running in hills for 10 minutes and could barely get my HR above 140 it felt great because I was flying, but not so great because it was like almost sprinting in a skree field with some of the sharpest football sized rocks you have ever seen.

Well I finally get my heart rate over 155 and reach the top of the hill, now I pretty much have to sprint down the hill just to keep my HR constant. As I am careening down the mountain with loose rocks flying all over the place I begin to wonder what it would be like to spend the night out here with a broken leg.  Oh well, no such adventure for me, I made it back without a scratch, but now have a new found desire to do Xterra races, and a little bit of a lecture for not staying with the group.

This brings me back to thinking about why it is so hard to get my HR up on the bike.  It almost felt like trying to get my HR up on the bike when I was sprinting around on those trails without barley having to breathe for 20 minutes. HMMM I also read an article that said that the best triathletes in the world keep their HR the same through the entirity of their race, and that the only reason that they can do this is because they bike for power rather than an aerobic base, and the aerobic base comes automatically...  Swim Bike Run.  I am sure that you all want to read the article so that you can tell me how dumb i am so here it is. slowtwitch

Then I read an article that Ted wrote here: article : and now I am wondering about my lactic treshold.  Anyway, this whole experiment is a lot of fun, and I am learning new stuff and that is always awesome.

On a side note, I was supposed to add one of the new AthleteInYou sponsors to the site yesterday, shoes.com, and instead of posting it I got side tracked and ended up ordering a new set of adi racers.  I had been looking for these shoes since my trip to Zurich last Christmas.  Crazy, right? Adi Racer
